It has almost a clumsy vibe, but in a good way. That’s probably because of the piano, but it varies in what chord it compliments, meaning the dreaded classic 4 chords (I IV vi V) don’t make an appearance. In fact, those chords or some variation of them are used so much in modern day pop music that I have come to despise anything on the radio nowadays. Anyways, the title matches the theme very well and the outro strangely works, despite the dissonant final chord. Nice job.

Tangerine responds:

Thanks! This songs structure and sense could be summed up by me banging my head on my keyboard. I always look forward to your feedback :) "dreaded classic 4 chords (I IV vi V) don’t make an appearance." I don't think I used any normal chords

Edit: Changed the word criticism to feedback. sorry for the miscommunication.

One of the tags is cello; I’ve played that since the third grade (when I was 8) and it remains my favorite string instrument, including piano in that category. A cello solo would have been very nice at some point. Speaking of piano, the chords remind me of those jazzy christmas song remakes, yet remain very original and fun to listen to. Melody is pretty good, but it ends very abruptly which is something you fixed in the 2021 competition.

Tangerine responds:

Thanks! The reason why it ended so suddenly is that it's a loop, not a song. I made this for my friends game so it's going to loop over and over until the player loses touch with reality. Cello is such a beautiful instrument and I've been thinking of using it as the carrier of the main melody. I have a soft spot for all of the instruments in the strings family since the first instrument I learnt was the Violin. I used a lot of generic jazz chords in this piece so that's probably why it sounds like jazz Christmas remixes.

I’m super late and didn’t even review this a week later until now. I think I can hear panning within the instruments, specifically with the flute, which is arguably the main instrument. The melody is nice, but it would have been nice to see a little variation in some way between the first and second high points. Meanwhile the background is a masterpiece; the chords are very nice indeed and, while remaining mostly static, have enough flair and added instruments near the end to negate it. I also like the intro and the bridge, perhaps the bridge is a little too long, and its transition into the final part is abrupt, but maybe that’s by design. Great work.

Tangerine responds:

hello there

0:58 sounds like the Steven universe theme (is that just me?)

Everyone is telling me this, after some replaying I just realized the similarities and can't unhear it now lmao

The metal part was actually really good! Wow, if the whole thing was metal it would sound amazing. The orchestral stuff sounded good, but I think Friday nights did the soft jazz significantly better. The rest of the styles were pretty good. Nice work!

Tangerine responds:

Thanks! That was the first time I've ever tried something metal. I'm glad I did an okay job haha. The final jazz was more of a classic jazz based off the inkboy song Two's a Party. Just different styles of jazz :). "if the whole thing was metal it would sound amazing." I'll try it someday haha.

The story in the description matching with the song really well makes this a 4.5 star instead of a 4 star for me. Not 5 because the ending could use some improvement, but nice job and great story.

Tangerine responds:

Haha, thanks. I'm not sure how to do endings too well yet. Still learning haha.

I’d normally dislike jazz because it always uses the same pattern of drums, but clearly there is potential in the genre that I missed out on. It’s jazz but not the repetitive saxophone jazz we are used to; rather, it feels a lot more chill and great for studying for a test with.
Edit: here’s an extra half star just because I think jazz is your main strength now

Tangerine responds:

Haha, I'm glad to know my music changed your perspective on jazz. To be honest, I agree with your statement of "always uses the same pattern of drums" I'm not gonna sit here and say I didn't do a basic drumming pattern, because I didn't haha. But I'm not a super huge fan of the basic tss tss t-tss tss style. I like it in a song like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QDAHzPIyzs I find that the drumming style really fits with the whole mood/style of the song. Only recently after making Falire but in different styles (the rock part) I really began appreciating drumming and how much it can transform a song. Before when I used to create music without drums or any musical knowledge what so ever (the dark times where I thought I was a master when I made one single bar sound bearable) they never sounded as good and It was difficult to vibe with. Sorry about this little rant, thank you for the comment I really appreciate it!

What does that voice at the end say? I can’t understand it

I'm a fucking crab. I'm a fucking crab. Look at me, DansDemand! I'm a fucking crab.

Truly heart felt lyric writing here.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard so much emotion and effort put into a musescore track. It works! Somehow it works! I can see how people would sympathize with this song and start bawling. I didn’t though because I never had a gf. ;(

theweathermanYT responds:

I’m glad you enjoyed! On the other piece I used a separate soundfont and echo settings so yeah I’ll stick to these lmao. It’s always much better to not have a gf than to have a bad one like I did ;(. I’m excited to hopefully see your return to my future pieces! :)

Really good intentions with this song. But I don’t want to let that impression stand in the way of an honest review, so here goes.
Everything sounds pretty good until 2:45 with frankly... less than optimal brass sounds going on. It begins to emanate musescore; I’ve used it before and it has questionable sounds so I don’t blame you. Also, at 3:30 it sounds really nice, actually that might be my favorite part. Every melody is perfectly fitting to commemorate a friend and I respect that. Finally, at 0:59 there is a weird note there but idk. Other than those pretty minor complaints, really good work.

theweathermanYT responds:

Thank you so much for the honest review! Yeah it’s in MuseScore... I wish I could help the sounds this program spits out. The review is much appreciated! I’m glad you enjoyed :)
