“Ppsa” public public service announcement lmao

What happened to your overembellished and maniacal descriptions?

I know that you took the piano and removed its bass entirely, but I personally am not a fan of that as it makes it sound tacky and cheap. When it comes to real instruments I like to use other tools like the filter and param eq to cut out the HIGH end, not the low end. Other than that, this song has a really unique atmosphere that does bring the vibes of elevator music in a way, but a dark version of an elevator music song. Nice percussion by the way; despite the beat being rather basic, it works due to the instrument choice and the weirdly complex usage of high hats. Makes it feel like a trap song at some parts. Also it’s a loop so there is no real end. I think this might be your best song yet. Keep it up!

PartyBalloof responds:

Hah I would've had a lot more time to work on the description if my phone didn't decide to be a slow poke and take like 50 minutes to navigate the file system. I wanted to get the track uploaded for NGADM which I kinda decided at the last minute.

Eh, I'll work on the description later.

In the jungle

Wow. The atmosphere is so different here than in many of your other pieces. I love the dissonance and the discordant nature of the song. Also why is this outro so effective? It’s a great song and I love to see you experimenting with other st- wait I have said that before. Keep it up!

wilidacious responds:

haha, thank you! i really appreciate that!

Well this is a masterpiece. The first truly orchestral experience you’ve made on FL studio (I really am starting to doubt that party in the concert hall was as good as I thought it was at the time). The mixing and just general instrumentation shows great potential for the future. This is the exact atmosphere I was going for in the final movement of Tennessee and you did it much better. The melody is one of your best; I just have a few qualms. First, some instruments here and there are too quiet (this is more of a nitpick to be honest) and also it was too short.
This song is, I would go as far to say, your first true usage of effects such as reverb and panning. All the instruments fit together perfectly in the theme, although I got more of an aftermath vibe than a massacre occurring during the song.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how good 1:10 is?! I love the whole chromatic scale thing going on, and it works well as an incredible tension builder. Then the final part comes, and while I think you were going for this to be the actual massacre, I interpret it as the police discovering, one by one (corresponding with each crash), the children who died horrifically at the hands of this monster.
Why do I see it in this way? Because the whole song is somber; it doesn’t go from happy carnival to extremely morbid scene, it just keeps that tone throughout.

Anyways, great job! This is a great precedent to build off of in the future.
Edit: totally forgot to congratulate you on frontpage, this one really deserves it. Glad to see we’ve both gotten front paged!
Anyways, 1:34, the oboe should probably be louder as it has the main melody/harmony with the xylophone type thing. 1:55-2:06, the background instruments are a little quiet compared to the crashes, which is a problem because it can effect the flow of that part of the song.
One thing I forgot to commend was the tempo change at the end, oh how I wish I could do that on FL mobile. The rest is really well done!

Tangerine responds:

Wow, thanks! When looking back, I don't really like party at the concert hall. I don't think I did the melody or music genre justice and it was more of a step for me to get used to the daw. Panning instruments and using other fun effects like that is something I discovered halfway through and I think it really brings depth to the song.

For the volume issues, would you be able to point out which specific parts you were referring to? It's still not too late for me to change anything. I haven't started anything new yet.

Always with the 4 chords… the part in the middle is my favorite though

Hey how did you get it to look like that? Also cool song, would be nice if it was a little longer than 57 seconds though

Edit: yeah I didn’t have the new version. No idea how I missed it, but I’m glad I have it now and have chosen the clay theme.

FL-DMD responds:

I’ll be happy to letcha know how ;)

About a month and a half ago? FL studio Mobile v4 released. Any version there and past has introduced an option in the settings to adjust the appearance. It’s such a great addition :o

Haha yeah I wish it was longer too, that’s all it was commissioned for :/

Dud, thanks a ton for the review!!!

Well, this is probably my favorite of yours since indigo depths (I’m not even joking). You’re exploring a new genre here, or at least I think you are, and it clearly fits your overall musical style even better than I would have expected. It’s really good and catchy all the way through, and I love the triplet rhythm at 1:36 as well. I can tell you’re improving after listening to this (last review I think I warned against stagnation, but it seems you’ve overcome that with this song in particular). Keep it up!

wilidacious responds:

thank you so much!

Well this is certainly interesting. A jazz song like this isn’t something I’ve heard from you in a long time, and it’s nice to see you coming back to it. Unfortunately, I think this song suffers a similar fate to Georgia in that the percussion is so outlandish that it prevents any sense of rhythm or time while listening.
…is what I would have said originally. Then I put my headphones on and listened to it again, and now my opinion has changed and this is quite nice indeed. The dissonant chords somehow fit really well with the rest of the song and do not come out of nowhere which was good. The percussion is actually my favorite part now, since I got to hear the quiet hi-hat that brought it all together. Also this is my favorite of your endings for no reason, just comical to not even end on the root chord or a variation of it. If I did have to give criticism, maybe up the volume of everything a little, and given that you use FL now, you’re entitled to put reverb on literally everything like you did in that one party song. And (I’m getting technical here) maybe open the param eq (or its equivalent on FL pc version) and cut off the top end of the piano to make it more slightly more muffled and blend in better with the other instruments. I’d try to experiment with this specifically because if done right it can really bring out the sounds of each instrument.
Anyways, this song is really nice sounding melodically and the percussion is probably your best so far, although the mixing is probably something to focus on in the future (you’re now held to that standard, I hope you’re enjoying it so far) (joking).

Tangerine responds:

Haha, the beginning of your paragraph scared me because the percussion is also one of my favourite parts of the song. To be completely frank, I actually didn't use fl studio for this one. I still do my drafts on Sibelius because it's easier to get my ideas out using notation. While making it I thought to myself "eh" and decided it was alright just being on sibelius; however, now that you mention the muffling on the piano, I really want to see how things would go with that. When I have time again, I'll punch it through fl studio and mess around with the effects a little. The mixing abilities of Sibelius are little to none.

I never noticed you uploaded this… why?
Alright well this is the largest change I’ve ever seen you make yet. I suppose you’ve been planning this a while, haven’t you? From literally 0:00 it’s just unlike anything you’ve made so far. This is the first time I’ve heard you use sidechain, a heavy kick drum, automation; you’ve learned a lot so quickly. While I regressed from the pc version due to its complexity, you’ve taken on the challenge and made this. It’s not perfect; some instruments are too loud especially the square thing at 1:23. Also is it just me or is it kinda hard to latch on to a main melody? That’s not necessarily a problem, it’s more a personal taste thing. I do tend to have “main themes” in all of my songs, it’s just something I took from my childhood musical endeavors.
In other news, you’ve used reverse snares, making me really want to put this as “modified orchestral dubstep.” Basically orchestral dubstep without the dubstep sounds. You’ll watch these dubstep tutorials and it’s just a lot of work and know-how, and they act like it’s easy to do when it’s really not. I tried this with my most recent song Nevada and ended up just using one of the presets and changing it from there. I really don’t know how to rate this one since there’s not much to compare it to. I know you probably had similar difficulties rating some of my songs like Georgia and New Hampshire, extreme departures from the norm are difficult to rate accurately. For the purposes of the review, I will give you a 4/5. Good job, I hope it will get even better in the future with this new direction!

Tangerine responds:

beannssss

Finally finished with working on a song for each of the 50 states! Moving on to more miscellaneous series and music.
