The next era.

After quite literally 5 years of flirting with the idea I finally decided to bite the bullet and just buy FL.

This may come as a shock to many of you. Part of my composition philosophy was to see what I could do with FL mobile, surviving on my iPad solely. It was a cool image to me, this ragtag amateur composer in the corner just chugging away, relying on intuition and instrumentation alone instead of on advanced features on a desktop (or laptop, in my case).

But things changed.

After the release of Newer Jersey, I realized that I was now being held back by my software. My ideas were good but the lack of online resources for my specific needs hurt the process quite significantly. I wasn’t able to use any of the plugins which there were literally hundreds of videos on (OTT, sytrus, etc), leading to what some called a muddy result.

With this much needed upgrade, I have several goals for the next era of my composition:

  1. Finish the newer series using the nicer software. Missouri 6 will now be called Newer Missouri, etc.
  2. In the process, I want to finally unify my two worlds of composing in a way that isn’t just layering cinematic strings over electronic synths.
  3. Learn to properly mix. It’s been over 7 years, I think it’s time. Also my enhanced knowledge of frequency ranges etc will help with my orchestration in classical pieces.
  4. Collab! It’s a heck of a lot easier if I’m on the same program as everyone else. Plus I’ve never done one before.

Wish me luck as I step forward into the new age. Got one more year before med school, gonna make it count.
